From Toddler to Sensei – A Path for Everyone

An article about progression within the Kyokushin Fight Academy

At the Kyokushin Fight Academy, we believe karate is more than just a sport. It is a way of life that unites physical, mental, and social development. That is why we have created a unique progression system, ensuring that every karateka — from the age of 2 up to adulthood — can grow step by step within our dojo.

Toddler Karate (2 – 4 years)

Children can start their journey with us as young as 2 years old in the Toddler Karate group. The focus here is on playful movement: balance, coordination, motor skills, and above all, fun. Training takes place once a week on Sundays in a safe and engaging environment. This stage provides the perfect foundation for further growth, both in karate and in daily life.

Youth Karate (4 – 12 years)

After the toddler stage, children move on to the Youth Karate group. This is where real karate begins: respect, discipline, basic strikes, kicks, and stances are at the core. Training is held twice per week (Monday and Thursday). These sessions lay the groundwork upon which every karateka can build their future development.

Youth Selection Team (6 – 12 years)

From the age of 6, motivated and talented children may be invited to join our Youth Selection Team. This team trains four times per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday), with sessions that are more demanding and performance-oriented. The program prepares young karateka for a potential competitive career, with additional focus on physical strength, perseverance, and mental resilience.

Competition Groups: Kata & Kumite

For students with the ambition to shine on the tatami, we offer specialized competition training:

  • Kata: beginners on Monday and Thursday, advanced on Friday.

  • Kumite: beginners on Saturday, advanced on Sunday.

Our competition teams participate in tournaments both nationally and internationally, where they not only gain experience but also learn to handle pressure, victory, and defeat.

Adult Karate (from 12 years)

From the age of 12, students can transition into our Adult Karate groups. These are traditional Kyokushin Karate sessions, with a strong focus on discipline, respect, and hard training. Young people here learn to train with and from adults, fostering independence and maturity both on and off the mat.

Leadership and Mentorship (from 2nd Kyu – Brown Belt)

At the Kyokushin Fight Academy, we see our members not only as athletes but also as future leaders. From 2nd Kyu (brown belt) onwards, karateka are trained as mentors. They support the younger groups, learn responsibility, and grow into leadership roles. In this way, we not only build strong fighters but also nurture the next generation of instructors and role models within our dojo.

A Path for Life

Our progression system ensures that every member of the Kyokushin Fight Academy can reach their full potential, regardless of age, talent, or ambition. From toddler to sensei, everyone follows their own path — and together we build a dojo where respect, discipline, and growth come first.
